IGCSE SUBJECTS

The Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies syllabus develops student’s understanding of business activity in the public and private sectors, and the importance of innovation and change. Students find out how the major types of business organisation are established, financed and run, and how their activities are regulated. Factors influencing business decision-making are also considered, as are the essential values of cooperation and interdependence.

Students not only study business concepts and techniques but also enhance related skills such as numeracy and enquiry. The syllabus provides both a foundation for further study at Cambridge International A Level and an ideal preparation for the world of work.

The Cambridge IGCSE Accounting syllabus introduces students to the theory and concepts of accounting and the ways in which accounting is used in a variety of modern economic and business contexts. Students focus on the skills of recording, reporting, presenting and interpreting financial information and build an ideal foundation both for further study and for a future career within the profession.

ENGLISH
The subject has been developed to make the learning process easy, fun and enjoyable. It focuses on the four main skills; Reading, Writing, Grammar and Listening & Speaking. The syllabus has been designed to expose children to different types of texts at lower levels so that the transition to higher and exam levels is made easier. The lessons are designed with colourful illustrations and multimedia contents to promote a fun learning experience. The objective is to ensure learners are able to use English for academic purposes and real-life communication.

IEW
The Institute for Excellence in Writing (I.E.W) equips students with basic methods and materials which will aid them to become confident and competent communicators and writers. Using the four language arts – listening, speaking, reading, and writing – IEW methods have been proven to be effective for students of all ages and levels of ability, including those who are gifted, who have special needs, or are English language learners.

IGCSE Physics offers students a comprehensive understanding of fundamental physics concepts and principles. The course covers a variety of core topics, starting with **General Physics**, where students learn about units of measurement, motion, forces, energy, and pressure. These foundational topics provide a base for understanding more complex phenomena in physics.

**Thermal Physics** is another significant area of study, focusing on the behavior of heat and temperature. Students explore concepts like thermal expansion, heat transfer, and the principles governing changes of state, such as melting and boiling. This topic helps students understand the real-world applications of thermal energy in everyday life.

**Waves, Electricity, and Magnetism** are critical components of the IGCSE Physics syllabus. In the waves section, students delve into the properties of light and sound, including reflection, refraction, and the electromagnetic spectrum. The electricity and magnetism section covers static and current electricity, electrical circuits, and the basics of magnetism and electromagnetism, which are essential for understanding modern technology.

The course also includes **Properties of Matter** and **Atomic Physics**. In Properties of Matter, students study the characteristics of solids, liquids, and gases, along with concepts like density, pressure, and the molecular model of matter. Atomic Physics introduces students to the structure of atoms, radioactivity, and nuclear energy, including the processes of fission and fusion.

Practical skills are a vital part of the IGCSE Physics curriculum, where students learn to conduct experiments, accurately measure and record data, and analyze results. These skills are assessed alongside theoretical knowledge through a combination of multiple-choice questions, structured theory papers, and an alternative to practical paper that tests their understanding of experimental design.

Overall, IGCSE Physics equips students with a solid foundation in physics, preparing them for further study and providing them with the skills to apply physics concepts in real-world situations.

IGCSE Chemistry provides students with a deep understanding of the fundamental concepts of chemistry. The course begins with the Particulate Nature of Matter, where students learn about atomic structure, states of matter, and the behavior of particles. They also study Experimental Techniques, which include methods for purifying substances and techniques for measuring physical quantities like mass, volume, and temperature. This foundation is essential for understanding how substances interact and change during chemical reactions.

As students progress, they explore Atoms, Elements, and Compounds, delving into atomic structure, the Periodic Table, and different types of chemical bonds such as ionic, covalent, and metallic bonds. They also cover Stoichiometry, which includes the mole concept, chemical equations, and calculations involving relative atomic and molecular masses. The curriculum further examines Chemical Reactions, focusing on reaction types, energy changes, and factors affecting reaction rates, along with the study of Acids, Bases, and Salts and their properties.

In addition to inorganic chemistry, the syllabus covers Organic Chemistry, introducing students to organic compounds like alkanes and alkenes, their functional groups, and reactions. Practical skills are emphasized throughout the course, with students learning to conduct experiments, analyze data, and draw conclusions. These topics are assessed through multiple-choice questions, theory papers, and an alternative to practical paper that tests students’ understanding of experimental techniques and their applications.

IGCSE Biology covers a broad spectrum of topics that provide students with a deep understanding of living organisms and their processes. The course begins with Cell Biology, where students learn about the structure and function of cells, as well as cell division, transport mechanisms like diffusion and osmosis, and the basics of biochemistry, including enzymes and their roles in metabolic processes. This foundational knowledge is essential for understanding more complex biological systems.

As the course progresses, students study Human Biology, focusing on the human body’s structure and functions, including the digestive, circulatory, respiratory, and nervous systems. They also explore key concepts in Genetics and Evolution, such as inheritance, DNA, natural selection, and genetic variation. This section helps students understand how traits are passed down through generations and how species adapt over time.

The curriculum also includes Ecology and the Environment, where students learn about ecosystems, food chains, nutrient cycles, and the impact of human activities on the environment. Practical skills are emphasized throughout, with students conducting experiments, analyzing data, and developing critical thinking skills. Assessment typically involves multiple-choice questions, structured theory papers, and an alternative to practical paper that evaluates students’ understanding of experimental techniques and their ability to apply biological concepts.
